What Is Laughter Yoga?

Laughter yoga is one of the newest, most enjoyable, and most beneficial activities that your team members will (actually) enjoy.   • More oxygen supplied to the brain - On average, our brains actually need about 25% more oxygen to reach their optimal performance. Laughter engages our diaphragms and results in an energized form of breathing that floods our brains with oxygen

  • Higher mental clarity - Increased oxygen levels in the brain can enhance mental clarity, concentration, and focus. It can also aid in increasing cognitive performance and improving memory

  • Improved Mood - Increased oxygen levels have also been shown to have a calming effect on the brain, reducing anxiety and improving overall mental wellbeing

  • Endorphins: the “Feel Good” hormones - Endorphins are released when we laugh, which help block the nerve cells responsible for pain signals. They also help reduce stress and promote a feeling of well being.

  • And when you start laughing, even when there’s nothing funny to laugh about, you’ll start to notice something weird happening. You’ll begin to laugh for real, and then your coworkers will too, until the entire group is practically keeled over on the floor laughing their heads off at literally nothing.

    Who Invented Laughter Yoga?

    Laughter yoga, created by Dr. Madan Kataria in 1995, has become a worldwide sensation with practitioners in over 100 countries. Dr. Madan found that by combining laughter and breathing exercises, you can increase oxygen flow to your body and brain, promoting feelings of health and energy.

    He was initially fascinated with the positive effects of laughter on the human body, but could not get his patients to laugh on command so easily. That’s when he discovered that placing people in a group session creates a contagious laughter that quickly turns into real, genuine laughter with amazing health benefits.

    How Yoga Fits In

    Gentle stretching and easy movements are incorporated as well, which help facilitate the flow of oxygen from laughing. Bends, inversions, and twists help by improving blood circulation to the brain. When we combine the envirogating breathing style from laughter with these relaxing yoga movements, we get an activity that’s as fun as it is healthy.     A great step up for larger groups up to 40 people, this more involved Laughter Yoga session is hosted in your workplace or office. Each session typically runs for 40 minutes, which we find is just the right amount of time to get your team over the 2PM slump with a quick and effective energy and mood boost.
